Philanthrophy
2020-2021 Community Service Chair: Kelly Barton
The Community Service committee is responsible for coordinating projects that serve the local community. This involves working with local businesses and non-profit organizations whose goals align with the Soroptimist mission of helping women and girls.
Time Commitment: Distribution of services and funds, at annual events, primarily occurs between January and June each year although community requests for support continue year-round.
Annual Community Service Events
Community Baby Shower:
The annual community baby Shower is designed to provide basic items to babies and toddlers in need throughout Josephine County. Collection containers our placed at several sites throughout Grants Pass for two weeks and the community is encouraged to make or buy new items to donate. Non-Profit Organizations receiving these items include Siskiyou Community Health Center, IV Safe House Alliance, DHS Foster Parent Program and Women’s Crisis Support Team.
Girls Rock:
Girls Rock is an all-day event for girls ages 9-13, accompanied by an adult. Girls may choose to attend five workshops from a wide variety of STEM based interests offered. This community event is collaboratively sponsored by Soroptimist, AAUW and Zonta organizations.
Holiday Giving:
The community service committee assesses the community needs each winter and selects 1-2 organizations to sponsor for holiday giving. This varies greatly from sponsoring entire families with gifts and food to basic needs required for homeless individuals. Ultimately, it delivers relief and smiles to the recipients
